Wilgerbosdrift’s promising young sire Hawwaam celebrated his first win as a stallion when his debut progeny, Read All About It, triumphed at Turffontein on Sunday. The two-year-old, trained by Mike de Kock, showed impressive form in the 4Racing Welcomes You Maiden Juvenile Plate (1000m) under jockey Muzi Yeni. Settling early in the race, the colt surged forward in the closing stages to secure a comfortable victory by 1.5 lengths.
Read All About It is the second runner for Hawwaam and was bred by his part-owners, Ridgemont. The colt is out of Picadilly Miss, a daughter of the accomplished London News, making him a product of excellent pedigree. Hawwaam’s first runner, Take It As Red, placed fourth in both her outings.
Hawwaam himself was an exceptional racehorse, earning R6,769,775 in stakes with 10 wins from 13 starts, including eight graded victories. A son of six-time South African Champion Sire Silvano, Hawwaam boasts an elite pedigree, being bred on the powerful Silvano/Jet Master cross. His Grade 1 triumphs include the Daily News 2000, S A Classic, Premier's Champions Challenge (twice), and H F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes.
Hawwaam’s dam, Halfway To Heaven, was a prolific producer, earning Equus Broodmare of the Year three consecutive times (2018-2021). She also produced notable champions like Rainbow Bridge, the 2020-2021 Horse of the Year, and dual Grade 1 winner Golden Ducat.
