Zac Purton showcased his brilliance at Sha Tin on Sunday, January 26, with a stunning four-win performance, just days after becoming Hong Kong’s all-time leading jockey with 1,814 career wins. His latest triumphs included a pair of victories in Class 2 races on an action-packed 11-race card.
Purton’s skill was on full display aboard Sunlight Power in the HK$3.12 million Class 2 Paris 2024 Paralympic Games Celebration Cup Handicap (1600m). Guided from an ideal barrier draw, Sunlight Power surged to the lead at the 250m mark and cruised to victory, clocking 1:34.64. The Ricky Yiu-trained runner, carrying 121lb, finished comfortably ahead of Yellowfin and Karma.
Later, Purton delivered a perfectly timed ride on Gorgeous Win in the HK$2.84 million Class 2 Para Equestrian Handicap (1200m). Positioned near the back early, the Danny Shum-trained four-year-old made up significant ground in the final stretch to win by a neck in 1:09.31, marking Purton’s 1,818th Hong Kong victory.
Purton also partnered with Magnifique, who impressed on debut in the Class 4 Para Athletics Handicap (1000m), and Yuen Long Elite, who claimed a second career win in the Class 4 Para Badminton Handicap (1400m).
The day’s other highlights included Vincent Ho guiding The Boom Box to maintain his unbeaten record in the Class 3 Para Archery Handicap (1200m) and Luke Ferraris claiming his first victory for trainer David Hayes aboard Precision Goal in the Class 5 Para Swimming Handicap (1650m).
Trainer Frankie Lor also saw success, with Keith Yeung piloting Never Peter Out to a narrow win in the Class 4 Boccia Handicap (1650m, dirt). Meanwhile, Alexis Badel and Caspar Fownes combined for victory with Perfect Team in the Class 3 Paralympic Value Handicap (1650m, dirt).
