Zac Lloyd, son of SA Star Jeff, won the New South Wales Apprentice title. The South African born won a tight race that ended today with an unassailable lead.
Jeff Lloyd manages his son and stated the following, "Statistically Zac has smashed the season out the ball park. On 21.30%, he concluded the season with the highest winning strike rate out of any jockey or apprentice in NSW, and the highest of any Australian Apprentice. Statistically in history, since 1935, only 4 apprentices have ridden more winners in a season than Zac. Closing on 76 wins, saw him finish 2nd on the Sydney Jockeys Premiership table.
What makes Zac's season even more memorable, is the fact that the
season hosts 114 race meetings at the metropolitan level of which Zac
only competed in 55.Having only commenced riding riding in the metropolitan circuit in the
second month of the season weekly, and on a full-time basis in the
third month. He also missed a very large part of the season due to
suspension. These statistics just reinforce what a phenomenal season it has been.
We would like to personally thank everyone at Godolphin; trainer
James Cummings, Vin Cox, Darren Beadman, Dizzy Appelbx, and
everyone involved at Godolphin. Who without doubt have helped Zac
considerably since his relocation.
Special thanks also goes to the Hawkes Racing team, along with
numerous other trainers, owners and not to forget all the racing staff
and racing clubs.
Also, a big thank you to NSW apprentice coach Corey Brown, for his
help and support.
As any parent would be of their 19 year old son to be competing at
this level after such a short time riding, both Nicola and myself are
very proud of Zac's achievements both on and off the track."
