The tragic tale of Black Caviar has taken another heartbreaking twist with the news that her Snitzel foal could not be saved.
The connections of the legendary sprinter, who was humanely euthanized on Saturday morning following a brief battle with laminitis, have confirmed that the final foal of the undefeated mare has also died.
In a statement, the owners shared their sorrow: "We are deeply saddened to inform that Black Caviar's foal, a colt sired by Snitzel, passed away last night (Monday)."
"Despite receiving round-the-clock, world-class veterinary care, his life could not be saved."
The ownership group expressed their gratitude to the veterinary team who tirelessly cared for both Black Caviar and her colt, as well as to the Australian public and the global racing community for their outpouring of tributes and support.
"She was truly loved and admired by many," the statement concluded.
