Princess Calla Retired from Racing, Begins New Chapter in Kentucky

Two-time Equus Award winner and South African Horse of the Year, Princess Calla, has officially been retired from racing and is now settling in at the Resolute Racing Farm in Kentucky.

The decision to retire the champion mare followed a thorough evaluation by the veterinary team, trainer Chad Brown, and the Resolute Racing staff. After careful consideration, the team agreed that transitioning Princess Calla to a broodmare career would be in her best interest.

"Her genetics are positioned to make a significant impact on the Kentucky breeding pool, especially given the rarity of Flower Alley mares in Lexington," the Resolute Racing team shared.

The journey to this point has not been without challenges. To her loyal fans in South Africa, the team acknowledged the immense effort Princess Calla undertook to compete internationally. "We gave her every opportunity, but the quarantine process ultimately took a toll. It was truly heroic for her to endure 120 days of quarantine, adjust to a hemisphere change, and still return to training."

Princess Calla’s undeniable talent shone throughout her career, leaving those who saw her train in awe. Her transition to the breeding shed signals a promising new chapter for this exceptional mare, and her progeny are sure to be eagerly anticipated by racing enthusiasts worldwide.

Fans can expect an announcement regarding Princess Calla’s breeding plans for the 2025 season in the near future. Stay tuned!
