Rathmor Stud’s resident sire Noble Tune (Unbridled’s Song) is a young sire with impeccable connections.
Not only does he share his late, great sire with the world’s top rated runner Arrogate, but Noble Tune is from a very hot and happening female line.
Noble Tune’s weanling half-brother, by Tapit, fetched $1 050 000 at the recent November Breeding Stock Sale- and he is not the first member of this family to make sales headlines.
A War Front colt out of Serena’s Cat (dam of Noble Tune) was knocked down for $2.6 million at the previous year’s Keeneland November Sale, while a Tapit filly out of Serena’s Cat made $3 000 000 at the 2014 November Sale.
The handsome Noble Tune (who bears a strong physical resemblance to his grandsire Storm Cat) was a high class racehorse who won graded races at both two and three.
He won four of just seven outings, and bankrolled nearly $500 000 in prize money, while stamping himself as one of the best US turf horses of his generation.
Noble Tune won three times at two, with his victories including a two and a half length romp in the Gr3 Pilgrim Stakes, where he accounted for five time stakes winner and New York champion Notacatbutallama (Harlan’s Holiday).
However, Noble Tune’s best performance as a two-year-old came when he finished a fast finishing runner up George Vancouver (Henrythenavigator) in the 2012 Gr1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf. Horses beaten by Noble Tune in the Breeders’ Cup included such graded/group winners as Balance The Books (Lemon Drop Kid), Dundonnell (First Defence), Fantastic Moon (Dalakhani), Helene Super Star (War Front) and Gr1 Breeders’ Futurity winner Joha (Johar).
The Chad Brown trained colt would go on to land the Gr2 American Turf Stakes at three, where he accounted for subsequent Gr1 Secretariat Stakes winner Admiral Kitten (Kitten’s Joy) by one and three quarter lengths –at level weights.
Noble Tune is by the outstanding sire Unbridled’s Song, whose five wins included the Gr1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. Unbridled’s Song, who died in 2013, sired over 100 stakes winners, including the Gr1 Breeders’ Cup winners Arrogate (Classic), Unrivaled Belle (Distaff), Midshipman (Juvenile), Unbridled Elaine (Distaff), and Liam’s Map (Dirt Mile).
Unbridled’s Song, whose daughters have produced more than 100 stakes winners including the Gr1 winners Carpe Diem (Giant’s Causeway), Unbridled Command (Master Command), General Quarters (Sky Mesa), and 2016 Breeders’ Cup Mile hero Tourist (Tiznow), is also sire of such Gr1 producing sires as First Defence, Rockport Harbor, Old Fashioned and Dunkirk.
Noble Tune is out of the blue blooded stakes winner Serena’s Cat (Storm Cat), whose four wins included the Klassy Briefcase Stakes. Serena’s Cat has more than lived up to her pedigree at stud –the three parts sister to Gr1 Coronation Stakes winner Sophisticat (Storm Cat) is not only dam of Noble Tune but also of US Champion Older Male Honor Code (A P Indy). The latter, who now stands at Lane’s End Farm for a fee of $40 000, won six times including the Gr1 Metropolitan Handicap and Gr1 Whitney Stakes and is regarded as one of the more exciting young sires currently at stud in North America.
Noble Tune, whose first two dams are stakes winning daughters of the great sires Storm Cat and Mr Prospector, has a legend for a third dam. Noble Tune’s third dam is none other than US Hall Of Famer Serena’s Song (Rahy), whose 18 victories included 13 Gr1 victories. Champion 3YO Filly of 1995, Serena’s Song, who banked more than $3.2 million in prize money, foaled seven stakes horses (including Gr1 winner Sophisticat), including the graded winning sires Grand Reward (Storm Cat) and Harlington (Unbridled). The latter made his mark through his daughter Wavell Avenue –the winner of the 2015 Gr1 Breeders’ Cup F&M Sprint.
This is also the family of 2016 G2 With Anticipation Stakes winner Made You Look (More Than Ready).
Noble Tune’s first yearlings go on sale in 2017. Watch this space!
