BULSARA COMES HOME ALONE IN LONDON NEWS STAKES

Bulsara (SAF) has hit top form and he easily accounted for his rivals in the Gr 3 London News Stakes over 1800m at Turffontein's inside track on Sunday. Galanthus (SAF) ran on for second ahead of Rudra (SAF) and Havasha (SAF).

Havasha broke well and led in the initial stages but was soon relegated to second as stablemate Lion's Blood tacked across from a wide draw and opend up a lead of some four to five lengths. Superfederation and Smanjemanje disputed thirs ahead of Bulsara who, in turn was a length or so clear of Galanthus. Rudra raced further back with Regal Ransom held up at the rear of the field with only Aluminium and Herod The Great for company.

Lion's Blood had a handy lead turning for home and maintained it until about the 400m mark when he suddenyly capitulated. Bulsara had been travelling ominously well up the inside and he shot into the lead. The race was over as a contest as he maintained a strong gallop all the way to the line and it was left to Galanthus to run on from midfield and claim second place, four lengths adrift.

Bulsara endured a winless streak of over a year following an impressive victory in the Graham Beck Stakes of 2009 but he was bumping top company in that time. He finally found the winner's box last time out in a Graduation Plate but this represented a much stiffer test and he rose to the occasion with aplomb. One would expect to see him contesting the big middle distance events coming up for the rest of the season and he could certainly add to his stake earnings there as he looks to have come into his own now.

Galanthus came into the race off a trio of rather disappointing efforts and this was much more like it. He had no chance with the winner but did make some good progress late and showed the kind of finish he is capable of.

Rudra remains competitive and although it's been a while since he showed in one of the really big events, he is always a threat in this sort of company. He had plenty of ground to make up turning for home and stuck to his task all the way to the line.

Havasha is probably best over a mile and is not the most consistent runner around but he ran well enough here, having raced handy throughout and plugged away under pressure in the straight.
