Trainer Patrick Shaw couldn`t be happier with the performance of his two
Singapore Airlines International Cup runners War Horn (Barend Vorster) and
Setembro Chove (Robbie Fradd), after the running of the $125,000 Open Class
1800m on Sunday at Kranji.
This was the duos final lead-up run heading into the International Group 1
event in a fortnights time and Setembro Chove cemented his spot with a very game
win, while stable mate War Horn ran sixth running out of condition over the
concluding stages.
"We need to take some of that condition off him for sure," said
Shaw of War Horn.
"But he ran well and everything is spot on for the Cup."
As the field of stayers settled into stride it was Laurie Laxon`s Raul (Farick
Tan) who took up the front running role with War Horn, Terfel (J Farook) and
Wind Chaser (Ronnie Stewart) keeping in close contention.
Fradd had Setembro Chove parked worse than mid-field in the run allowing the
five-year-old to relax and travel.
As the field went for home War Horn was gaining ground on the rails as Raul
moved off. War Horn did hit the lead momentarily but it was short lived, as his
stable mate Setembro Chove was right behind him and finding his way through the
pack under Fradd`s guidance.
The Argentinian bred found plenty in the run to the line to score by a
half-length from Wind Chaser who fought on bravely, with Raul a short head away
third.
"That was a very nice win I`m very happy," said Shaw.
"He`s such a game horse and this will top him off nicely for the SIA
Cup.
Robbie Fradd was pleased at the win and felt confident throughout the run.
"He was always going to win. There was never any problem about finding a
gap.
"Pat and the team have done a great job with this horse, he`s had lots
of problems and they have done a lot of work to get him here today.
"I`m more than happy to be riding him in the Cup, he`ll put in a genuine
effort for sure," Fradd confirmed.
"I know how good this horse is. The ground was a little hard for him to
day as he was trying to save himself a little, but he still tried his heart
out."
It was the first win in Singapore for Setembro Chove (BRZ) but he generally
raced in the best of company in his seven previous starts. His best run came in
July 2006 when he ran third in the Singapore Derby behind Our Falstaff when he
was found afterwards to have a fractured splint.
Shaw allowed him plenty of time to recover from that injury and he didn`t
start again until March 2007.
The SIA Cup will be his sixth run back this campaign and he should be at the
peak of condition to take on the seven international contenders who are all
arriving this week in preparation for the prestigious 2000m event on May 20.
