Ryan Moore will ride True Love in Sunday's Irish 1000 Guineas at the Curragh, having switched from stablemate Precise following the filly's commanding victory in the English edition at Newmarket earlier this month. Moore had initially chosen Precise for the Newmarket contest, the dual Group 1-winning juvenile carrying a stamina profile that appeared well-suited to the demanding straight mile. But True Love, ridden by Wayne Lordan, dominated the 1600-metre Group 1, defeating 18 rivals with Precise finishing seven lengths adrift in seventh. Aidan O'Brien calls the No Nay Never filly "an absolute Queen" and points to her rare combination of speed and stamina. True Love won last year's Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes over 1000 metres as a two-year-old before proving equally effective at a mile this season—a profile O'Brien says is unusual for any horse, let alone a filly who stands bigger and stronger than most colts.
Precise primed for rematch
The tables could yet turn in Sunday's rematch. O'Brien acknowledged that Precise was "a little underdone" at Newmarket after earlier-season issues, but the stable has since accelerated her preparation for the Curragh. True Love has drawn gate one and Precise gate seven in the 12-runner field, which also includes Ballydoyle's outsider Beautify under Ronan Whelan and UK-trained challengers Abashiri, Sukanya, America Queen and Hope Queen.
Minnie Hauk headlines Tattersalls Gold Cup
Earlier on the card, the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup over 2100 metres features Minnie Hauk, the world's highest-rated mare in 2025 following victories in the Group 1 Oaks Stakes at Epsom and the Group 1 Irish Oaks at the Curragh. Her only defeat came when beaten a head by Daryz in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at ParisLongchamp in October. Minnie Hauk's stablemate Edward Hamilton ran her to a narrow margin in the Group 2 Mooresbridge Stakes over 2000 metres earlier this month, briefly threatening a 125/1 upset before being reeled in. Roger Varian's Saddadd, winner of the Group 3 Gordon Richards Stakes over 1990 metres at Sandown, looms as the primary threat to the Ballydoyle pair. Varian describes the colt as relaxed with a strong attitude and expects him to handle the Curragh's configuration. The Tattersalls Gold Cup will be run at 15.55pm Hong Kong time, with the Irish 1000 Guineas following at 16.30pm, GMT.
