Embroidery delivered a commanding performance in Sunday's Victoria Mile at Tokyo Racecourse, extending her Grade 1 winning sequence to three and confirming her position at the top of Japan's female miler division.
The four-year-old daughter of Admire Mars broke cleanly from barrier 12 and settled around sixth as Erika Express set the tempo. Tracking wide through the turns, she began her run on the uphill section of the straight and hit the front with 200 metres remaining, pulling clear for a 1-1/4-length victory over Kamunyak. The win followed her recent success in the Hanshin Himba Stakes and added to a record that now reads three victories from four starts at two, and three wins including the Oka Sho and Shuka Sho from five starts at three—a campaign that earned her the Best Three-Year-Old Filly title. Jockey Christophe Lemaire reported a smooth execution of the race plan. "We were able to break smoothly, which allowed us to race in a good position. She responded really well on the uphill stretch, and I was confident we could win again," he said, before noting her development and temperament. "She's a smart horse with a strong mentality, and she's developing physically as well—she's truly a G1-caliber horse." Lemaire raised the prospect of international competition, stating, "I think she can compete both in Japan and overseas."
Lemaire Extends Victoria Mile Record
The victory marked Lemaire's fifth in the Victoria Mile, following previous wins aboard Admire Lead in 2017, Almond Eye in 2020, Gran Alegria in 2021 and Ascoli Piceno in 2025. It also brought up his 60th JRA Grade 1 title, while trainer Kazutomo Mori recorded his third JRA Grade 1 success—all three with Embroidery. Kamunyak tracked the winner throughout and finished second, 1-1/2 lengths clear of the rest. Last year's runner-up Queen's Walk worked into contention from further back in the field and rallied late to edge out Erika Express for third, but was unable to close on the leading pair. The performance positions Embroidery as the dominant force in her division and sets up potential domestic or international targets for the remainder of the season.
