The MTC Jockey Club Ltd (MTCJC) has ushered in a new era for racing at the Champ de Mars, announcing a significant increase in stakes money for the 2026 season. Owners, trainers, and racing enthusiasts have reason to celebrate: the stakes have been lifted by 30% over the 2025 closing levels, marking a major milestone in the sport’s resurgence.
This adjustment follows a 15% mid-season increase in 2025, meaning that from the start of August 2025 to the opening of the 2026 season, stakes money has effectively surged by 50%. Such a rise underscores the MTCJC’s commitment to rewarding investment, nurturing talent, and strengthening competition across Mauritius’ premier racecourse.
In recognition of the ongoing dedication of owners and trainers, the MTCJC will also issue an additional 10% retroactive payment on all stakes earned during 2025, a gesture designed to acknowledge the crucial role they played in revitalizing the sport.
“The unwavering support of our owners and trainers has been the backbone of our revival strategy,” the MTCJC statement read. “Your commitment and investment continue to fuel the growth and success of horse racing in Mauritius.”
As the 2026 season approaches, the Champ de Mars looks set not only to offer bigger rewards but also to reinforce its status as a central hub for competitive and exciting racing in the region. With stakes at record levels, the season promises heightened excitement for competitors and spectators alike.
