Four-time UK Champion jockey Oisin Murphy is set to make his second South African appearance in as many months, with his booking on Royal Aussie for the prestigious Grade 1 King’s Plate at Kenilworth.
Murphy, fresh off a triumphant Grade 1 2000 Guineas win in Mumbai last weekend, recently competed in Johannesburg’s Summer Cup for Team Valor. This visit to Cape Town will also serve as part of his summer vacation, making it a well-timed stop on his global schedule.
In addition to the King’s Plate, Murphy will take the reins on Future Swing in the Grade 2 Premier Trophy, Sail The Seas in the Middle Stakes, Clair De Lune in the Charles Dickens Stakes, and Summer Lily in the Sceptre Stakes. At this stage, he has not been confirmed for a ride in the Paddock Stakes.
This outing will mark Murphy’s first time riding at Kenilworth, a track he previously visited as a guest broadcaster during his suspension a few years ago. With his impressive international resume and strong recent form, Murphy’s presence adds an exciting dimension to one of South Africa’s premier racing events.
