Trainer Lunga Gila has announced that his stable will be relocating back to Fairview in the Eastern Cape, where his training journey began two seasons ago. After spending this year operating out of Futura Park in the Western Cape, Gila will saddle his final runners for his Cape-based stable at Kenilworth on Wednesday.
Reflecting on his time in the Western Cape, Gila expressed his gratitude:
"I want to thank Greg Bortz, Justin Vermaak, and Hollywoodbets for their incredible support. I was treated exceptionally well and truly enjoyed my time in Cape Town. However, I’ve decided to return to the Eastern Cape to be closer to my family, who need me right now."
Gila’s tenure at Fairview in the 2022/2023 season was impressive, ending with the third-highest win percentage despite being a relatively small stable. In January this year, he made history as the first Black trainer to operate in the Western Cape, a milestone he reflects on with pride:
"I think I’ve done well in the Western Cape, especially for a small yard like mine."
Now, as he prepares to restart his journey at Fairview, Gila is eager to build on his achievements and welcomes support from the racing community. For those interested, further details can be found on the Lunga Gila Racing Stables Facebook page.
