Lloyd's son, Zac, no longer an apprentice

The curtain has officially closed on Zac Lloyd's remarkable four-year apprenticeship, and what a journey it has been. With an impressive 353 winners to his name, Zac finishes this chapter of his career boasting an enviable win strike rate of 18% and a place strike rate of 42%. His resume includes two Group 1 victories, seven Group 2 triumphs, two Group 3 wins, and nine Listed successes—accomplishments that any seasoned jockey would be proud of, let alone an apprentice.

As Zac transitions into life as a fully-fledged jockey, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the people and moments that helped shape his path.

A Journey of Growth

Zac’s story began on the Gold Coast with Toby and Trent Edmonds, where he first honed his skills. A brief stint with Lauren Abbott in Brisbane followed before he embarked on a life-changing move to Godolphin Australia.

During his two-and-a-half years with Godolphin, Zac flourished under the mentorship of Head Trainer James Cummings. Known for his strategic insight and unwavering positivity, Cummings played an integral role in nurturing Zac’s natural talent.

Mentors Who Made the Difference

Of course, no story about Zac’s success would be complete without mentioning Darren Beadman. The legendary ex-jockey offered unmatched guidance, both on and off the track. Darren and Agent father Jeffrey formed a dynamic support team that ensured Zac had every opportunity to excel. Their combined expertise provided Zac with a strong foundation, enabling him to tackle the challenges of racing at the highest level.

A Bright Future Ahead

South African born Zac’s achievements are a testament to his passion, grit, and dedication to horseracing. Leaving home at a young age to chase his dreams was no small feat, but Zac approached every challenge with determination and focus. His efforts have paid off, earning him a place among Australia’s top young riders.
