William Buick achieved a significant milestone by securing his 100th win at the highest level while riding Mill Stream to victory in the My Pension Expert July Cup. This achievement comes 15 years after his first Grade 1 win with Lahaleeb in 2009.
Mill Stream, trained by Jane Chapple-Hyam, was noted for his potential as a Group 1 sprinter, having trained in the same box as the legendary Black Caviar. The race was expected to focus on Commonwealth Cup winner Inisherin, who ultimately finished fifth, while Buick capitalized on the strong pace to clinch his first July Cup victory.
Chapple-Hyam praised Mill Stream’s consistent race performance, emphasizing his ability to deliver during races rather than in training. Following this win, she looks forward to entering him in the Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville in three weeks.
Buick expressed his delight at the win, noting its special significance at home and recognizing the hard work from Chapple-Hyam and owner Peter Harris. Mill Stream's grit was crucial against tough competition, solidifying Buick's status as a leading rider at the summer track.
