Arabian Knight takes revenge in Geaux Rocket Ride in Pacific Classic

In the $1-million FanDuel Racing Pacific Classic at Del Mar on Saturday, two of the top 3-year-old colts in America engaged in a thrilling stretch battle. Arabian Knight, owned by Zedan Racing Stables and trained by Bob Baffert, managed to hold off Geaux Rocket Ride from Pin Oak Stud by a neck, marking the conclusion of the 33rd edition of this prestigious Grade I headliner, raced over a mile and a quarter.

Arabian Knight, a son of Uncle Mo, had only made his fourth start and was ridden by jockey Flavien Prat. The talented colt completed the challenging distance in 2 minutes and 3.19 seconds. This victory was Prat's third in Del Mar's premier race, while it was a historic seventh win for Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert. Previously, Baffert had been tied with the late Bobby Frankel for six victories in the race.

Arabian Knight went off as a slight favorite over Geaux Rocket Ride and rewarded his backers with a payout of $6.20. His triumph earned him a first-place prize of $600,000, which boosted his total earnings to an impressive $1,244,275.

Taking the third position in the race was Slow Down Andy, owned by Reddam Racing, who finished a length and a quarter behind "Rocket."

The FanDuel Racing Pacific Classic was the highlight of a five-stakes day at Del Mar's sunny and mild shore oval. This race took place on Day 26 of the track's 31-day meet, which was scheduled to conclude on September 10.

In other notable races on the same day:

- In the Del Mar Mile (Race 7), Du Jour, owned by Baffert and Lanni and ridden by Flavien Prat, secured a victory by two and a quarter lengths in the grass mile, completing it in 1 minute and 33.82 seconds. The win paid out at $10.20, with a total purse of $302,500 and a win share of $180,000.

- The Torrey Pines Stakes (Race 8) saw the favored Ceiling Crusher, owned by the partnership of Cady, Kasparoff, Leatherman, and Wonderland Stable, dominate the dirt mile under the guidance of rider Edwin Maldonado. They finished with a time of 1 minute and 37.41 seconds, with a win price of $6.80.
