Economics - the mover in World Rankings

ECONOMICS (GB) [123] has joined the Top 5 in the eighth edition of the LONGINES World’s Best Racehorse Rankings for 2024 as the result of his victory in the Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes (G1).

In the Irish Champion Stakes, Economics defeated last year’s winner, AUGUSTE RODIN (IRE) [122], by a neck. Japanese-trained SHIN EMPEROR (FR) [120] was three-quarters of a length back in third and joins the rankings off of his effort.


With his victory, Economics improved his rating to 123 from 121. He came into the race having won his three other starts this season, including the Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Dante Stakes (G2) and Prix Guillaume d'Ornano (G2).

Meanwhile, the top three finishers of the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (G1) have joined the rankings. BLUESTOCKING (GB) [122] defeated AVENTURE (IRE) [120] by 1 ¼ lengths, while LOS ANGELES (IRE) [120] was 1 ½ lengths back in third. Bluestocking came into the Arc having beaten Aventure by three-quarters of a length in the Qatar Prix Vermeille (G1). Her other wins this season include the Cairn Community Games Pretty Polly Stakes (G1) and Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Middleton Fillies' Stakes (G2).

Earlier this year, Aventure won the Prix de Pomone (G2) and Prix de Royaumont (G3), while Los Angeles took the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby (G1), Sky Bet Great Voltigeur Stakes (G2), and Cashel Palace Hotel Derby Trial Stakes (G3).

Elsewhere, MR BRIGHTSIDE (NZ) [120] has improved his rating to 120 from 119 following his victory in the Crown Makybe Diva Stakes (G1). He defeated PRIDE OF JENNI (AUS) [121] by a half-length in that contest. Earlier this year, he won the Sportsbet C F Orr Stakes (G1) over that same rival. Mr Brightside then went on to win the Lamaro's Hotel Futurity Stakes (G1).
