Pocket Power sent out a clear warning that this could be his best season yet in Durban as the son of Jet Master put on his after burners and lit up Clairwood in his sensational seasonal debut at the South Durban track.
Running over a distance short of his best, 1450m and against the top class Our Giant in this R100 000 Pinnacle Stakes race, he more than solidified his place at the top of the Vodacom July betting boards with a most impressive effortless win.
Our Giant was well off with Drayton also fast after the break. By the 1200m pole, Drayton stole a 10 length advantage from Our Giant, Autumn Frost and Bill of Rights next best. Past the 800m pole, Pocket Power was some fourteen lengths behind Drayton but racing within himself at that stage. Our Giant was six lengths back in second.
At the 400m pole, Pocket Power was in the perfect place and ready to make his run down the center of the track six lengths behind Drayton. Our Giant challenged Drayton with Bill of Rights, but it was Pocket Power who poured on the pressure in the final 200m to romp home with a convincing win signaling his well being before the Group 1 races this winter season.
Our Giant ran well in second at level weights with Pocket Power (61 kgs) as did 4th pace getter, Bill of Rights (61 kgs). Drayton was game in 3rd leading after leading for most of the contest. There rest of the field was outclassed.
Rated as the 7th best horse in the world, Pocket Power, was king again today and looking ominous for the season.
