Kentucky Derby winner Golden Tempo will stand at Lane's End Farm following a racing career that brought historic significance beyond his Louisville triumph.
The Curlin colt retires with a 3-0-2 record from five starts and earnings of $3,433,000, anchored by his victory over Arkansas Derby winner Renegade in the 152nd Run for the Roses.
Golden Tempo's Kentucky Derby success made trainer Cherie DeVaux the first female conditioner to win the classic. His campaign included victories in the Lecomte Stakes and a Fair Grounds maiden alongside placings in both the Risen Star Stakes and Louisiana Derby, all contested during his winter preparation at the New Orleans oval.
The homebred colt represents a partnership between Phipps Stable and St. Elias Stable built on multigenerational breeding foundations. Co-breeder Daisy Phipps Pulito pointed to that lineage when discussing the stallion deal, noting the Kentucky Derby result validated generations of family breeding philosophy through the collaboration with St. Elias.
Golden Tempo descends from graded stakes winner Carrumba, a Bernardini mare who sits fifth-generation deep in the Phipps breeding operation. That dam line traces to foundation mare Blitey and contains at least seven additional Grade 1 winners across four generations, including 1994 champion three-year-old filly Heavenly Prize. The family has also produced Grade 1 winners Dancing Forever, Dancing Spree, Good Reward, Oh What a Windfall, Fantastic Find, and Furlough. Lane's End general manager Bill Farish highlighted the pedigree foundation when announcing the acquisition. He noted the farm has long focused on classic profiles backed by deep producer families, suggesting Golden Tempo fits the operation's established stallion model.
Farish emphasized the presence of multiple Grade 1 winners and producers across the colt's immediate pedigree alongside his sire's proven record. Curlin has produced 26 Grade 1 winners including three additional classic victors. The sire line includes eight Eclipse champions and six different Breeders' Cup winners who have combined for eight World Championship victories. Lane's End made no announcement regarding Golden Tempo's racing future for next season. Stud fee details typically emerge during the fall.
