Fresh off the plane from South Africa, Mid Winter Wind wasted no time making an impact in Hong Kong, storming to victory in a 1200m Class 3 event at Sha Tin.
Formerly trained by Sean Tarry, the gelding defied the odds with a gutsy performance. Despite covering extra ground on the turn, he surged past the well-fancied Sunny Da Best, showing immense determination to secure a statement win on his Hong Kong debut.
He competed at the highest level in South Africa, Mid Winter Wind demonstrated his class on the global stage. Bred by Drakenstein Stud, the son of What A Winter is now in the care of Mark Newnham, with Luke Ferraris producing a well-judged ride.
Sent off at 40/1, this was an upset that won’t be forgotten anytime soon.
