South African jockey Warren Kennedy produced a masterclass aboard Crocetti in the Group 1 Railway Stakes on World Pool Day at Ellerslie Racecourse, New Zealand.
Positioned perfectly in third throughout, Crocetti unleashed a decisive turn of foot in the final stages to chase down the frontrunners, including the highly-rated favorite, Alabama Lass, a standout three-year-old filly. Under Kennedy’s trademark determination, the talented gelding darted through a narrow gap between horses, sealing an impressive victory.
Kennedy’s precise timing and tactical awareness were on full display as he stalked behind Luberon while keeping Alabama Lass within striking range. Reflecting on the win, Kennedy said:
"This means the world. His prep wasn’t ideal, and we decided to try blinkers. He really attacked the line today. The old Crocetti is back. I got him off the fence early, and the splits came just when I needed them."
Kennedy added, "He wanted to win, he fought hard, and he got the job done."
Crocetti’s gutsy performance and Kennedy’s flawless ride showcased why the South African jockey remains one of the sport's most reliable talents on the international stage.
