In a tight race for the championship, Ng leads Lui 67-66 after 87 meetings, with Ng fielding nine runners across seven races and Lui ten in nine. Both trainers are vying for their first championship win.
Ng, who finished 10th in last season’s championship with 41 wins, was outpaced by 12-time champion trainer John Size (79 wins), while Lui achieved a career-high 67 victories as the runner-up. Ng has led this season's standings since November 5, building a 16-win buffer, but Lui took the lead on June 15. Ng has since reclaimed the top spot and holds a slender lead with only 11 races left in the 2023/24 season.
Ng, previously an assistant to Lui, has the edge with more second and third placings, which could prove crucial in the event of a tie. His strongest contender, Fighting Machine, will run in the Class 4 Medic Kingdom Handicap with Zac Purton, following a solid fifth place finish last time out.
Ng's other entries include Duke Wai in the Class 2 Joy And Fun Handicap, where he faces off against Lui's Packing Treadmill and Call Me Glorious. Ng is optimistic about both Duke Wai and Beauty Waves, the latter stepping up from Class 3.
Bits Superstar, debuting in the Class 3 Pingwu Spark Handicap, showed promise in trials and will aim for a top-five finish, while I Can seeks to secure his second win this season from a challenging draw. Both trainers are determined, making for an exciting showdown.
