Trainer Henry Dwyer has indicated that Asfoora, who recently made waves in the King Charles III Stakes, may extend her racing campaign to the United States. The Group 1 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint in November at Del Mar, California, has become a viable option following her ballot-free entry secured by a Royal Ascot victory.
In an interview with Racing.com’s Olivia Kold, Dwyer explained that Asfoora’s success in Europe has opened up new possibilities. “Our plan initially included four races in Europe and then possibly heading to the US. Winning a 'win-and-you're-in' race was crucial to make this feasible financially, and we’ve achieved that,” Dwyer said. “With funds secured, it's quite likely we'll take her to the US if everything aligns.”
The Royal Ascot win has led to a reconsideration of Asfoora's scheduled run in the G2 King George Stakes at Goodwood on August 2. Dwyer expressed concerns about the weight penalty she might incur due to her recent Group 1 victory. “Winning a G1 would increase her weight significantly at Goodwood. While I'd love to compete there, we need to carefully evaluate the situation,” he noted.
Looking ahead, Dwyer mentioned that the G1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York on August 24 is a probable next step before finalizing any US plans. He also expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from fans back in Australia. “The support has been phenomenal. I haven’t dared to check my phone because of the flood of messages. My wife Bec and the kids are thrilled and will watch the replays in the morning. I’m immensely grateful to all our supporters and owners back home,” he added.
