Ambiente Friendly, runner-up at Epsom, is set to compete in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh on June 30, as announced by owner Tim Gredley.
Trained by James Fanshawe, Ambiente Friendly finished second to City Of Troy in the Betfred Derby and will now aim for another Classic, with Epsom third-place finisher Los Angeles also in the lineup. Meanwhile, City Of Troy is being targeted at the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown on July 6.
Following this announcement, Paddy Power has positioned Ambiente Friendly as the 5-4 favorite, with Los Angeles now at 6-4.
Entering the Curragh Classic will require a supplementary fee of €100,000, which is offset by an incentive linked to Ambiente Friendly's victory in the Lingfield Derby Trial in May.
Gredley stated, "We're heading to the Irish Derby with Ambiente Friendly. It's not because City Of Troy is not participating; we believe a mile and a half suits him best, and it's a Classic. The Curragh's conditions are favorable for him, similar to Epsom, unlike Sandown, which is flatter and could be too challenging over a mile and a quarter at this stage in his career."
Originally, Ambiente Friendly was considered for the Coral-Eclipse, but his connections prefer to stick with the mile and a half distance.
"It's crucial to maintain the mile and a half distance for now and compete against his age group. The Irish Derby presents a better opportunity than the Eclipse at this point in his career," Gredley added. "The Fanshawes have worked all winter to prepare him for this distance, and he proved himself at Epsom. Changing the plan now doesn't make sense."
Regarding the Sandown option, Gredley said, "Despite the weight advantage in the Eclipse, it's better to compete against peers. Winning the Irish Derby would be special, as my dad won the Irish Oaks with User Friendly. Rab Havlin will continue to ride, and James Fanshawe and Freddy Tylicki are part of the discussions."
Three more Newmarket-based horses follow Ambiente Friendly and Aidan O'Brien-trained Los Angeles in the Irish Derby betting odds. Charlie Appleby's Arabian Crown, who missed the Derby, and Epsom eighth-place Ancient Wisdom are at 7-1 and 12-1, respectively, while Roger Varian-trained Leicester novice winner Matsuri is also at 7-1.
