The disheartening scenes that went on at Greyville this afternoon at the city course, has left the South African industry embarrassed and ashamed in front of world wide viewing audience.
Punters and certain owners prevented the meeting from continuing after the late scratching of Main Defender, the country's 2nd highest rated horse and the highest rated 3 year old in South Africa. The horse was scratched after he was found to have tested over the limit. This means that his TCO2 levels were found to be excessive.
The scratching from the race meant that some owners of the horse and punters protested, blocked the exit to the Racecourse and the race meeting was subsequently abandoned. The South African Police Service was called in but it didn't help.
The race meeting was rescheduled for Wednesday.
