INQUIRY – JOCKEY ROBERT KHATHI
The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Cape Town on 4 June 2021 into the running and riding of FATEFUL in Race 5 at Kenilworth Racecourse on 3 May 2021, Jockey Khathi was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.1. The particulars of the charge being that as the rider of FATEFUL he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures between the 300m and the finish, to ensure that his horse was given a full opportunity to obtain the best possible placing.
Jockey Khathi was legally represented at the inquiry.
Jockey Khathi pleaded not guilty to the charge, but was found guilty as charged.
The Inquiry Board, after considering all the factors stated in mitigation and aggravation, imposed a penalty of a suspension in riding in races for a period of thirty (30) days.
Jockey Khathi was given the Right of Appeal against the finding and the penalty imposed.
