Blue Sky Thoroughbreds, the operation of passionate thoroughbred breeders and owners Bruce Le Roux and Tinus Gericke of Mooi River, South Africa, present an outstanding draft for the 2026 KZN Yearling Sale.
The farm enjoyed a memorable weekend earlier this month when its homebred filly Prayersandpromises powered home to win the Highveld Winter Juvenile Stakes, while fellow Blue Sky graduate Legal Counsel came within a short head of Gr1 glory when runner-up in the Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge.
That success underlines the quality on offer in a draft that combines proven bloodlines with strong commercial appeal. The Blue Sky consignment features yearlings by Act Of War, Chimichuri Run, Digital Age, Eden Roc, Erik The Red, Malmoos and What A Winter.
Champion sire What A Winter, whose daughters Get Up and Asiye Phambili recently completed a notable feature-race double, is represented by Russian Fox (Lot 165), a half-brother to the smart performers Nikiya and Russian Roll.
Eden Roc, the Gr1-winning son of Var, has two particularly attractive fillies in the draft. Lot 146, out of the classy Winter Sun, hails from one of the strongest female families in the South African Stud Book. Lot 136, meanwhile, is out of Gr3 Sycamore Sprint winner Tropic Sun and is closely inbred to champion sire Captain Al.
Other standouts include a Digital Age colt (Lot 38) from a five-time-winning daughter of Kahal, a Malmoos colt (Lot 85) whose winning dam is a half-sister to an Argentine Gr1 winner, and an Act Of War colt (Lot 94) out of a dual stakes-winning daughter of Jet Master.
Blue Sky Thoroughbreds will also offer, on behalf of Gerald Kalil, Setmysightonu (Lot 28), an Act Of War colt from the family of champion Circle Of Life and fellow Gr1 winners African Lion, Deo Juvente, Tecla Bluff and Zebra Crossing.
