Smart Daryzan to Target French Derby

The Aga Khan Studs will field a dual challenge in the Prix du Jockey-Club after connections confirmed that Daryzan will be aimed at the French Classic alongside stablemate Dolmalan, another son of Zarak.

The decision followed discussions between Princess Zahra, trainer Francis Graffard and the ownership team, with Daryzan now set to remain on the Classic path in France rather than pursue an alternative target.

In outlining the plan, the Aga Khan operation confirmed: “After discussions with Princess Zahra and Francis Graffard, we have decided to aim Daryzan towards the Prix du Jockey-Club, in which we will also have the Mikel Delzangles-trained Dolmalan, both sons of Zarak.”

That detail is significant given the growing influence of Zarak as a sire at the highest level in Europe, particularly with middle-distance performers. Having two sons represented in the same renewal of the Prix du Jockey-Club underlines the strength of the stallion’s current crop.

Daryzan will represent the Graffard stable, while Dolmalan is prepared by Mikel Delzangles, giving the Aga Khan Studs two separate training operations heading into one of France’s premier races for three-year-olds.

Attention will now turn to final preparations ahead of the Chantilly feature, where both colts are set to test their credentials against the leading Classic generation in France.
