Barzalona Shines in the LONGINES International Jockeys’ Championship

Mickael Barzalona delivered a masterful performance in the LONGINES International Jockeys’ Championship (IJC), clinching victories in the first and final legs of the competition to secure the title. The 33-year-old became the third French jockey to claim the prestigious trophy, following in the footsteps of Christophe Lemaire (2009) and Olivier Peslier (1998 & 2006).

Barzalona began his campaign in style, edging out William Buick aboard Sergeant Pepper in the 1000m opening race to score a maximum 12 points. He carried his momentum into the second leg, charging home with Forever Glorious in the 1650m contest. Although James McDonald denied him a win in that race with a late surge aboard Prince Alex, Barzalona's consistency ensured he stayed ahead in the standings.

Hollie Doyle made her mark in the third leg, guiding Soleil Fighter to a narrow victory and keeping the competition tight. By the final leg, multiple jockeys, including Buick and Karis Teetan, remained within striking distance of the title.
