Strategic Play Crucial for Isivunguvungu

Isivunguvungu is set to make his international debut in the Da Hoss Stakes at Colonial Downs on Saturday, taking on the 1100m turf challenge.

The race features strong pace dynamics, with at least three contenders expected to show early speed. Among them are Sweet Cherry Pie and Bear River, both of whom are considered longshots. Bear River, drawn in gate 3, is likely to set the pace.

Positioned just off the early speed could be Run Carson, Nothing Better, and Dream Shake, the latter breaking from a wide draw of 9. These three are among the race favorites in what promises to be a wide-open contest.

Isivunguvungu, currently priced at 8/1, is expected to settle towards the rear of the field, with plans to unleash a late kick. This will require him to navigate around horses and make a wide run to catch the leaders. Manny Franco, an accomplished jockey, will be aboard, guided by trainer Graham Motion, who has been eyeing this race since July.

However, if Isivunguvungu gets too close to the pace early on, he might find himself in a speed duel against some tough rivals, which could be a challenge, especially as he’s coming off a layoff and may need the run. His success will largely hinge on executing the right tactics.

While Isivunguvungu has the potential to win this race, a victory would be an added bonus as the primary goal seems to be prepping for a possible start in the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint.
