Sheikh Splits with Top Trainer

Roger Varian has announced that prominent owner Sheikh Mohammed Obaid has withdrawn all 10 horses he had in training at Varian's Carlburg Stables in Newmarket.

Over the past nine years, the duo has enjoyed significant success, securing seven Group One victories. Among the standout horses trained by Varian in Sheikh Obaid's iconic yellow silks with black spots was Postponed, who achieved major wins in the 2016 Sheema Classic, Coronation Cup, and Juddmonte International.

A statement on the Varian Stables website confirmed the news: "I can confirm that Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum has ended his support of my stable. The 10 horses that he currently had in training with me departed today.

"I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Sheikh Obaid for all the opportunities he has provided over the last nine years. Together, we've shared many memorable moments both in Britain—especially at Royal Ascot—and abroad, including seven Group One wins.

"Sheikh Obaid is a passionate and dedicated supporter of racing on a global scale, and I wish him and his horses the very best in the future.

"I also want to emphasize that my team at Carlburg and I remain fully committed to continuing our successful season. We currently have a top-class miler in Charyn and a British Classic winner in Elmalka, alongside several other highly talented horses.

"We are deeply grateful to all our owners and look forward to delivering continued success in the months and years ahead."
