French Legend Trainer to Join with Rising Star

Jean-Claude Rouget, a legendary figure in French horse racing, will collaborate with Jerome Reynier under a joint license starting January 1, 2025.

Rouget, 71, operates training facilities in Pau and Deauville and has overseen the careers of top horses like Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winners Sottsass and Ace Impact.

Back in May, the four-time French champion trainer announced he was suffering from exhaustion and would follow medical advice to take a three-week break from training.

The announcement stated: "Jean-Claude Rouget will be absent from the racecourse for the next three weeks. His assistants, Jean-Rene Dubosc in Pau and Jean-Bernard Roth in Deauville, will take over during this period. Concerned about his exhaustion, his doctors recommended medical examinations and complete rest. Jean-Claude Rouget is committed to following this advice and stepping back from his professional duties while expressing gratitude for the supportive messages he has received."

It's unclear if Rouget's partnership with Marseille-based Reynier, a rising star in European training, is related to his health issues.

In an exclusive interview with Jour de Galop on Thursday, Rouget said, "I've known Jerome for some years and have always admired his methods. Although we haven't been very close, we understand each other well. The idea for this partnership came to me at the beginning of the year."

Reynier commented, "Our joint operation will officially start on January 1, 2025, and our names will appear together on racecards from that date. I believe this collaboration will enhance our opportunities, benefiting everyone involved. Together, we will be stronger, and it's exciting to share this journey as we aim for the best possible outcomes."
