Quid Pro Quo Dominates in Gr1 Douglas Whyte Stakes

Quid Pro Quo solidified her status as the best two-year-old filly in the country with a remarkable victory in the Gr1 Douglas Whyte Stakes. This win marked her fifth consecutive triumph, following impressive performances in the Gr1 Allan Robertson Fillies Championship and the Gr2 Golden Slipper. Trainer Barend Botes expressed his amazement at this string of successes.

The filly’s challenge was compounded by the loss of a shoe on her way to the start. After consulting with Botes, it was decided to have the course farrier remove both front shoes.

S'Manga Khumalo, who had ridden Quid Pro Quo in her previous three starts, got her off to a good start, following Lock And Key, who was also drawn wide. Quid Pro Quo settled just off the pace with Fatal Flaw on her inside.

As they entered the straight, Lock And Key quickly faded, allowing Piere Strydom to slip Fatal Flaw up the inside rail. For a moment, Khumalo had to navigate around the retreating Lock And Key, but he deftly switched Quid Pro Quo to join Fatal Flaw. The two horses raced head-to-head for a few strides, with Strydom urging extra effort from his mount. However, Quid Pro Quo eventually asserted her dominance to secure a decisive victory.
