City Of Troy Guts it out in Eclipse

City of Troy's win in the Coral Eclipse race, following his Derby victory, highlighted the high regard in which he is held. Despite the win, there was a sense of anti-climax due to an unexpectedly tough race at Sandown. Relief was the main feeling among those close to him, as his performance did not match his dominant display at Epsom 35 days earlier.

At Epsom, he showcased grace and ease, but at Sandown, he struggled on the boggy track, needing grit to secure his win. This victory brought his record to five wins from six starts but raised more questions than it answered about his potential.

City of Troy drifted to the right two furlongs out, but once he found the far rail, he maintained his lead over Al Riffa. Trainer Aidan O'Brien expressed concern about the soft ground, noting it was not ideal for City of Troy, who prefers good ground.

Owners John and Sue Magnier attended Sandown, adding pressure on O'Brien. Despite the challenges, City of Troy's determination shone through, and plans are being considered for his next races, potentially including the Juddmonte International, Irish Champion, and the Breeders' Cup Classic.
