Buffalo Bill Cody's Pistol Pete back in the winners box

Wilgerbosdrift's promising sire, Buffalo Bill Cody, is off to a strong start in his stud career, with five of his first eleven first-crop runners already winning. Leading the charge this season is the speedy colt, Pistol Pete.

Pistol Pete secured his fourth win in six starts by leading the entire race at Turffontein on Sunday. Ridden confidently by Calvin Habib and trained by Tony Peter, Pistol Pete took the lead early in the Juvenile Plate (1160m) and held off a strong challenge from favorite Bjorn Ironside, winning by three parts of a length despite giving away 4kgs.

Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Pistol Pete had an impressive start to his career, winning his first three races by a combined nearly 12 lengths. His victories include a notable win in the Listed HKJC World Pool Event 6 April Storm Bird Stakes by three-and-a-quarter lengths.

A R380,000 purchase from the 2023 Cape Yearling Sale, Pistol Pete is out of the Tiger Ridge mare Oklahoma Sky. His sire, Buffalo Bill Cody, is currently South Africa’s second Leading First Season Sire for 2023-2024.
