July Favourite Gets Plum Draw

Green With Envy has got most likely the best draw possible at 5 for the Durban July.

The event attended by a small group of owners and trainers who were present at the draw and final field announcement.

Flag Man, the main opposition to Green with Envy together with See It Again, drew 17 and 10 respectively. Michael 'Muis' Roberts would have been the happier of the two trainers but the draws have favoured both high and low draws in the past.

The field is rather weak and detection of many to the United States coupled with the scratching of numerous stars including SA Oaks winner Frances Ethel yesterday and other highly rated runners like the 123 rated Sandringham Summit, not taking his place.

Among the other notable contenders, last year's winner Winchester Mansion and runner-up See It Again are set to face off again, with See It Again carrying top weight and jockey Piere Strydom aiming for his fifth win in the race. Trainer Michael Roberts eyes a win as a trainer after his previous victory as a jockey.

Roberts isn't the only trainer with high hopes. Nathan Kotzen's Royal Victory, drawn at pole position, adds to the local excitement, aiming to break the dry spell for KZN-trained horses. With English-based jockey Daniel Muscutt on Double Superlative, trained by Justin Snaith, the competition promises to be fierce.

Snaith boasts three contenders, including Without Question and Future Swing, ridden by Richard Fourie. Green With Envy, the ante-post favorite, led by Dean Kannemeyer, faces stiff competition from Gareth van Zyl's Flagman, among others. Brett Crawford's Oriental Charm and Purple Pitcher, trained by Robyn Klaasen, also stand out in the lineup.

With seasoned trainers like Sean Tarry, Mike de Kock, and Tony Peter in the mix, alongside emerging talents like Andre Nel and Johan Janse van Vuuren, the 2200m race at Hollywoodbets Greyville on July 6 promises an electrifying showdown of the country's top middle-distance horses.
