Gimme A Nother Crowned at Highveld Awards

United States bound Gimme A Nother was named Horse Of The Season at the 2024 Highveld Feature Season Awards, held at The Galleria in Sandton on Saturday evening. The event celebrated the achievements of the Highveld Feature season stars, concluding with 'The Championships Finale' at Turffontein on April 27. The highlight event of the dual season was the 3 month 'The Championships' which contains 7 of the 8 Grade 1 races in Johannesburg.

Gimme A Nother, the three-year-old filly undefeated in her seven starts, stood out with her dual Gr1 wins during 'The Championships'. The seven wins included Gr2 and Gr3 victories, also earned her the Champion Three-Year-Old Filly title.

Robyn Klaasen's Purple Pitcher and Nathan Kotzen's Royal Victory were both dual Gr1 winners during the season. Purple Pitcher was named Champion Stayer after winning the SA Derby but also won the Gr1 SA Classic and Gr2 Dingaans.

Royal Victory, trained by Nathan Kotzen, claimed the titles of Champion Older Horse and Champion Middle Distance Horse. His notable victories included the Gr1 Summer Cup and Gr1 Premier’s Champions Challenge - the two key 2000m event on the Highveld.

Tony Peter’s Main Defender, a standout on the Highveld and the second highest rated horse in South Africa, was named Champion Three-Year-Old Colt/Gelding. With wins in the Gr1 Horse Chestnut Stakes and 6 others, he is now a 7 time winner.

Mary Slack’s Thunderstruck, who won a Pinnacle Plate on the day of the awards prepping for the Gr1 Golden Horse Sprint, was rightly crowned Champion Sprinter. His wins include the Gr1 Computaform Sprint during 'The Championships'.

Little Ballerina, trained by Candice Dawson, was named Champion Two-Year-Old Filly following her victory in the Gr2 SA Nursery. Alec Laird’s Fire Attack was awarded Champion Two-Year-Old Colt/Gelding after his win in the Gr2 SA Nursery.
