Economics Shoots Clear in Dante, could Derby be next?

York's G2 Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Dante S. witnessed a standout performance on Thursday, injecting some excitement into the current season. However, there was an unexpected turn as Economics (GB), an impressive contender, will not be participating in the Derby at Epsom in June unless supplemented.

Despite marking his territory with a victory at Newbury last month, Economics was withdrawn from the Blue Riband entries by trainer William Haggas, who deemed the colt too physically imposing for the Classic.

Economics, a flashy chestnut, defied expectations as the 6/1 chance, in the Dante, which featured Godolphin's G1 Futurity Trophy winner Ancient Wisdom (Fr). Under the guidance of jockey Tom Marquand, Economics patiently waited at the back before seizing the lead effortlessly two furlongs from the finish. Despite drifting slightly off course, Economics showcased his prowess, crossing the line with a six-length lead over the disappointing Ancient Wisdom, with War Rooms (Ire) finishing half a length behind in third place.
