Secret Satire causes Upset in Oaks prep

In a surprising turn of events at Wednesday's G3 Tattersalls Musidora S. at York, Secret Satire (GB), trained by Andrew Balding, emerged victorious despite being considered an unlikely contender. Despite only placing third in a Sandown novice race last month, the 22-1 outsider, ridden by Oisin Murphy, demonstrated remarkable form. Initially racing with vigor, Secret Satire found a comfortable position behind the leader.

With a burst of speed two furlongs from the finish line, the homebred surged ahead and maintained a strong lead, ultimately winning by two lengths. Francophone (GB) finished second, followed closely by Classical Song (Ire) in third place.

Murphy said post race: “She wasn’t that silly early, we were just going very slow and I couldn’t get cover because the leaders stayed off the rail.

“It wasn’t a true test of stamina, so we don’t really know whether she’s going to stay at Epsom, but on that performance she didn’t do a lot in front and she deserves maybe to go there if Andrew decides.”

Meanwhile, the favored Friendly Soul (GB) failed to perform, finishing at the back of the pack.
