Muth Scratched from Preakness

Muth (Good Magic) will not be competing in Saturday's GI Preakness S. due to a fever he developed after arriving at Pimlico late Tuesday.

Bob Baffert expressed disappointment, stating, “We are disappointed about this. The horse had been performing admirably, but we must prioritize his well-being.”

As the runner-up in last year's GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile, Muth, a $190,000 Keeneland September yearling turned $2-million OBS March topper, showcased his potential by winning the GII San Vicente S. in February. Additionally, he secured Bob Baffert's fifth victory in the GI Arkansas Derby on March 30. However, he was unable to compete in the GI Kentucky Derby due to Baffert's ban at Churchill Downs.

Muth was the morning-line favorite at 8-5 in a field of nine, with Juan Hernandez slated to ride. Mystik Dan (Goldencents), the Kentucky Derby winner, is now the 5-2 second favorite after Muth's withdrawal.
