City of Troy: Best Horse O'Brien has sent to the Derby

Aidan O'Brien is confident that City Of Troy possesses unparalleled talent for the Derby, despite his lackluster performance in the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket. Despite attributing part of the blame to himself, O'Brien remains optimistic about City Of Troy's chances in the upcoming Epsom Classic, where the colt has garnered significant support from punters, even being favored at 3-1.

City Of Troy, sired by Justify, had an impressive juvenile season, notably winning the Dewhurst by a considerable margin. However, his return at Newmarket was disappointing, finishing ninth out of eleven runners, well behind Notable Speech. O'Brien acknowledged that the horse's preparation might have been inadequate, confessing to treating him too reverentially during the winter months.

Drawing parallels to last year's disappointment with Auguste Rodin in the 2,000 Guineas, O'Brien remains hopeful for City Of Troy's prospects, emphasizing the colt's exceptional ability. Despite O'Brien's illustrious history at the Derby, he believes City Of Troy might be the most talented horse he's ever sent to Epsom.

Reflecting on City Of Troy's Newmarket performance, O'Brien noted the horse's agitation before the race and the subsequent impact on his performance. Despite this setback, O'Brien is determined to learn from the experience to better prepare City Of Troy for the Derby.

Additionally, Group 1 winner Los Angeles and Dee Stakes victor Capulet are also contenders for the Epsom Classic, adding further excitement to the upcoming race.
