Frankie Dettori has scrapped his retirement plans, opting to extend his career as a full-time US-based jockey. The success of his farewell tour convinced him to explore a new chapter, with California as his destination, aiming to participate in the Kentucky Derby.

While bidding farewell to British racing on Qipco British Champions Day at Ascot, Dettori remains open to the possibility of returning to events like the royal meeting and other major European races, as hinted by his ally John Gosden.

Dettori has milked the retirement plans with numerous operators doing farewells for the star jockey and the ones outstanding are likely scrambling to change those plans. The British are due to say goodbye on Champions Day but how much of a goodbye would that be? 

The personal brand of Dettori has grown with the attention he has garnered and it could onto be good for him but the public will be less convinced the next time he calls it quits.
