Secret Power Becomes the Champion Thoroughbred of 2022
Gazi Derby (G1), being organized uninterruptedly for 96 years, was held on Sunday, 26 June 2022 at the Veliefendi Racecourse, with the participation of over 40.000 racing fans.
Gazi Derby, the most important challenge of 3-years-olds was held on 2400 meters on turf track with the participation of 22 thoroughbreds.
Secret Power (Native Khan - Fleeting Mirage / Afleet Alex) owned by Emrah Karamazı, won the race with her jockey Özcan Yıldırım with a finish time of 2.31.04. The gray filly bred by Umut Coşar and trained by Yaşar Demir obtained her 3rd Group victory in a row and got her 6th victory at the 9th start of her racing career.
The winner received 3.859.700 TL including the first prize (2.500.000 TL), entry fees and owner’s premium. If Secret Power, previously winning 1000 Guineas (G1) and Turkish Oaks (G1), also wins the Ankara Stakes (G1) on 24 September will get the Triple Crown and receive a bonus prize of 2.500.000 TL.
Mucize Kız (Torok - Plucky Khan / Holy Roman Emperor) finished the race in second place with Müslüm Çelik and followed by Sigoş (Toruk Macto - Crafty Spell / Mastercraftsman) with Gökhan Kocakaya, Final Dance (Declaration Of War - Finnie Mac Cool / Giant's Causeway) with Halis Karataş and Royal Baby (Kuloğlu - Rain Goddess / Green Gönen) with Görkem Özçelik.
Frankie Dettori came 7th with Hardmet while Olivier Peslier came 18th with Anadolu Gururu.
The margins of the race were 2 Lengths – Nose – Nose – Nose.
Jockey Özcan Yıldırım got his first Gazi Derby victory and devoted the victory to his mother and daughter, at the interview he gave after the race.
