More Bountiful emerged a convincing victor of the Chairman’s Trophy (HKGr.2-1600m) on Sunday to provide champion jockey Douglas Whyte with the 1100th winner of his Hong Kong career.
The John Size trainee was making his tenth start of his maiden season and winning for the sixth time – just one win short of the record for wins in a Hong Kong season.
This is an impressive feat by any standards but the deed is even more commendable given that More Bountiful was up against it given the race conditions – he was 19lbs worse off with the runner-up Fellowship on official ratings but still had over a length to spare at the wire having come from the tail of the field off the home turn.
The top weight Viva Pataca ran a solid third to aid his preparation for the Audemars Piguet QEII Cup on 26 April.
The Champions Mile on the same day may now be the next target for More Bountiful.
