Gimme A Nother caused a stir with a heart-stopping moment before emerging victorious at the Gr1 Empress Club Stakes in Turffontein. Despite her undeniable talent, the filly's developing temperament issues added an extra layer of tension for racing enthusiasts.
The prestigious Gr1 race, which garnered attention from Hong Kong and 30 other jurisdictions participating in the World Pool event, had punters holding their breath as the filly knocked herself and sustained a cut near her eye while in the pens. Although she was momentarily withdrawn for examination, she was ultimately deemed fit to compete.
Once the race began, Gimme A Nother displayed her prowess on the track. Shadowing stablemate and frontrunner, Humdinger, she maintained a steady pace until she unleashed her speed in the final stretch, securing a comfortable victory. Despite a brief 'flat spot' around the 300-meter mark, jockey JP van Der Merwe's expert handling ensured a decisive win, with Gimme A Nother crossing the finish line 1.5 lengths ahead of the competition.
Her triumph saw her outpace Humdinger and Mrs. Geriatrix, the former champion 2-year-old who continues to excel albeit not winning like she last season. Gilded Butterfly claimed fourth place in the exhilarating race.
