The establishment of the polytrack at the Greyville Race Course just over a year was a controversial one for a number of reasons. In the last ten days two Greyville Friday night meetings would have been abandoned on the turf and Scottsville meeting set for today would have been cancelled. KZN has received an abundance of rain during the past two weeks. It may have resulted in a waterlogged car park, but the polytrack, tested for the first time under severe rain, has stood up remarkably well.
Today's racing seems set fair and it is unlikely to rain during the course of the day.
The eight race card has, understandably, been decimated due to the fact that the venue has changed from the turf in "Sleepy Hollow" to the polytrack at Greyville.
Best bet on the card could come in the fifth race where the Mike De Kock runner, BARBARIAN, races on the surface for the first time. His latest effort was his best in three runs. This race was meant to be over 2400m, a distance that would have suited him down to the ground, but the 2000m should go well for him. The 52½ kg on his back should suit and looks to have a very good chance and has been priced up as favourite at 15/10.
Racing gets under way at 13h05.
